Tegoshi is more mature than Kirishima.
Sawamura-san's humour softens the mood at the shoot.
Acting together again after 5 years! Stories from that time.
---5 years ago, you acted together in Gachibaka as principal and student. What were your impressions of each other?
Sawamura: Tegoshi appeared with Tegomasu's Masuda in Gachibaka, and he was different from the other students in the dancer-like way in which he walked.
Tegoshi: Fuhahaha! (laugh)
S: It was like his trademark, and I often imitated it. When I spoke about this to Matsujun (Matsumoto Jun), he said "I went through a phase like that too". (Rises to his feet as he speaks)
T: Ahaha! (laugh)
S: After putting on make-up, he would return to his dressing room with his hands in the pockets of the school jacket (imitates Tegoshi's walk). His way of walking was like a dance.
T: Ahahaha~ (embarrassed). At that time, I knew that you were imitating me!
S: You did? I meant to do it secretly though (laugh).
T: I didn't realise it myself, but even Ishihara Satomi-chan said, the way I walked was strange. Like I was walking on a line, or I place my feet at the centre.
(T/N: Ishihara Satomi was Tegoshi's co-star in Hyoten)
S: Yeah yeah yeah! But it's not like that now.
T: It's not? I have completely no idea why (laugh).
---What was Sawamura-san like?
T: He was kinda involved with co-star Inoue Waka-san (laugh).
(T/N: More on Inoue Waka on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waka_Inoue)
S: Ah- yes~. Because there happened to be a magazine with her photoshoot on set, and I couldn't help it (laugh).
T: Ahahaha! (laugh)
---Between then and now, have your impressions of each other changed in any way?
S: I don't think Tegoshi has changed much, even then he was a little more mature than the other students.
T: My impression of Sawamura-san hasn't changed much either.
---What do you think of your collaboration this time, acting together as police detectives?
T: Shigemura-san is calm even in the throes of a case. When everyone is troubled over something, he is able to change everything with a single statement, he's the sharpest character in the show.
---Is that completely different from Sawamura-san's own personality?
S: Wait a minute! (laugh)
T: His personality? (laugh) Rather than to say there is a gap, I think it's better to have some humour. It softens the mood at the shoot.
S: What do you think of dirty jokes?
T: I like them! (laugh) Although to say that sounds strange (laugh), there are some things that only guys can talk about.
S: When talking about what I hate, I hate dirty jokes the most. (laugh)
T: HAHAHA! (laugh)
S: That makes people think 'that was fake!' (laugh).
T: That was fake! (laugh)
---Is there anyone whom you think is funny?
S: Tutorial's Tokui (Yoshimi)-kun. I think he's good. And Fukuyama Masaharu-san, he's good.
T: Fufu (laugh).
---Then what do you think of Tegoshi-kun?
S: Kirishima is a newbie cop. So he's still inexperienced (laugh). It's that kind of role.
T: Hai!
S: I think Tegoshi-kun is more mature than the character he plays. But if we're talking about the role, well he's inexperienced. He's only a little more senior than Wanko.
---What does Tegoshi-kun think?
T: Hmmm, compared to my other roles, this is the closest to what I'm really like. But Kirishima seems younger. There are people who say that I'm old for my age.
S: Friends?
T: Yes, they say that I seem older than I actually am. In the past I was more baby-faced and so I looked my age, but recently when I talk to people, some of them think I'm older than my age. "Only 23?!" they said.
S: I wasn't so mature when I was 23. I was freelancing, and had just started modelling. I was only concerned about one length haircuts and tight-fitting one pieces (laugh).
Sawamura and Tegoshi, signs of a friendship irrespective of the age difference?!
---Tegoshi-kun seems to have many friends who are older than him.
S: Ah, really!
T: I don't have many friends of my age. Most of my friends are between the ages 30 and 45.
S: Eh-! Is that why he seems mature. Those are people of my generation.
T: That's true.
---So when you converse on set, it doesn't feel uncomfortable?
S: We haven't really chatted privately on set.
T: That's true. It would be different if we had a chance to go and drink together.
---So have you talked about whether to go for a drink together?
S: We'll do it one of these days I think. I'll probably be the one inviting. There's a place I want to recommend (laugh).
T: Hahaha! (laugh)
S: It's on the way back. I want to see the real Tegoshi then! (laugh)
Questions to Tegoshi
Q: What if you had to give yourself a nickname of _____ cop?
Soccer cop. I would catch baddies by kicking soccer balls into them (laugh). A little like (Detective) Conan! (laugh)
Q: What is a special ability of yours, like Wanko's sense of smell?
My soccer pals say I'm "fast in 5 metres". I'm fast in going for the ball. I don't remember the exact timing, but I can sprint 50 metres in 6 to 7 seconds. I'm good at short distances.
Sawamura-san and Tegoshi-kun's lecture ♥ Points to learn!
Highlights of the drama's onscreen scenes
S: Solving cases by the nose and by the sense of smell will draw cries of "Wrong! Wrong! That's not right!" from the people watching; the comedy's really easy to understand. If we rely on sight, things happen in a moment, but with smell, it's like following a line being pulled along, if we keep following the line being moved by the culprit, we will eventually reach the truth... if we see it that way, isn't it interesting.
T: The investigation of the cases revolve around Wanko; at first everyone in the 13th section makes fun of her, but as the story progresses they start to recognise her ability. From now, everyone's feelings will start to change, and Wanko's relationship with everyone in the 13th section will evolve, and I think this is also one of attractions of this drama.
Highlights of the drama's behind-the-scenes
S: To be honest, the characters' personalities are all messed up. Like the role played by Okura Koji, he's normally calm and serious, but then he can go crazy over things he's particular about, Ishizuka (Hidehiko)-san shows us expressions different from those he shows on variety programs, and Masu (Takeshi)-san plays a weak-willed superior. I think it's fun to watch these characters and these actors. Shigemura is a deep character, from now he might be made to do things he hasn't done before, and that worries me a bit (laugh). Tegoshi and Tabe-chan's roles are more straightforward? (laugh)
T: Yes, straightforward (laugh), and they can't stand injustice. As always, the characters are the main focus!
S: I said that already! (laugh)
T: And there's Wanko's dressing. She has so many items with her! The hairstyle's amazing and there's the hat, accessories, strap etc. Her gun has Piipo-kun's sticker and a strap (laugh). I would like everyone to look out for all these details too.
(T/N: Piipo-kun is the mascot of Japan's Metropolitan Police Department)

S: That might be good. I saw the set for Wanko's room and it's interesting. Wanko's house is a general store. There're lots of old toys in there, the general store is also a highlight of the drama!
